As we are starting to wind down from all the farm shows across the state and country, whether it be Louisville or Houston, John Deere has released a substantial amount of new technology offerings for the upcoming year. From an 830-horsepower tractor, down to being able to dose a single seed corn kernel with the equivalent gal/A rate.

The ExactShot™ fertilizer delivery system will deliver your chosen liquid fertilizer in a one-inch band directly on the seed at planting and will be available for Spring 2025.

John Deere has developed ExactShot™ to help combat high liquid fertilizer prices with precise placement of liquid in-furrow fertilizer. The ExactShot™ system works in conjunction with the ExactEmerge™ planter with its brush belt technology to know exactly where the seed is located within the metering belt to deliver a precise dose of fertilizer directly to the kernel of seed in the furrow as the planter is traveling at up to 10 mph. This technology allows for the operator to select the length of dose of fertilizer that the seed will receive. Therefore, if you are planting at a rate of 32,000 seeds/A, which would equate to roughly 6 inches per seed, the ExactShot™ has the technology to only dose the seed and up to one inch on either side, therefore leaving effectively no fertilizer in remaining 4 inches of the furrow.

"...we were able to achieve equivalent or higher yields by dosing the seed with either a slightly lower or equal amount of fertilizer...all while reducing the overall quantity of fertilizer used by more than 50 percent."

Sinclair Tractor and John Deere worked together on a pilot project with a couple of local cooperators to determine the safety and cost/product savings of the ExactShot™ system and the results were eye opening at a minimum. As you can see in the research results posted below, in terms of safety of dosing the seed with fertilizer, we were able to achieve equivalent or higher yields by dosing the seed with either a slightly lower or equal amount of fertilizer as compared to that of using a continuous stream of fertilizer. This was accomplished all while reducing the overall quantity of fertilizer used by more than 50 percent. Saving over 50% of the fertilizer used is a real cost savings/advantage to the customer especially when tighter margins are at the forefront of 2024 growing season.
